Confidence is an important ingredient of life. Confidence and trust in their abilities is what we see in movie stars when they are acting and in influential leaders; however it is something that doesn’t come naturally for everyone. If it doesn’t come naturally to you don’t worry rather than something we either have or don’t, confidence can be built with small, consistent actions. Here are some actions to help you out:
-Accept Yourself as Enough. Stop comparing your body, your life and your family to other people’s and focus instead on all those things that make you unique. We all have unique qualities we can celebrate and be proud of.
-Set Small, Achievable Goals. When you set small goals for your life on a regular basis, as you achieve these goals it gives you a boost in self esteem, \ and self confidence.
-Practice Positive Self-Talk. Notice when you are thinking to yourself “I am not good enough to try this” and try replacing it with “I am good enough for this and will get better.” or when you are thinking “I'm bad at this,” try saying instead “I'm still learning, and I’ll get better.”
-Body Language Is a Powerful Tool. Simply fixing your posture by standing straight, speaking up or looking people in the eye when you speak can have a big impact on how you perceive yourself and how others perceive you. Whenever you are feeling down or sad, try standing straight, and smiling at yourself in the mirror and notice the impact it has on your mood.
-Practice Positive Reinforcement. Encourage those around you when they are acting confident and positive about their abilities. Let them know you see them and support them. Surround yourself with people that will do the same for you.
Confidence isn’t built overnight, but with practice you can become the best version of yourself. Let me know in the comments one thing you love about yourself.
