The importance of managing stressing

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Did you know that thousands of people around the world experience chronic stress and consider it a normal part of their life? In fact many people consider stress as a component of a successful life. Stress is a response the body and mind have developed over the years to ensure survival react to and imminent danger, therefore it alters the way your metabolism functions. Our minds cannot differentiate between real danger and the danger we imagine

(making a mistake, being ridiculed, etc) . It doesn't matter whether there is someone threatening you with a knife or you getting nervous about an upcoming reunion, the body emits the same stress response

Stress can have a wide range of effects on the body, both physical and mental. Here are some of the most common effects of stress on the body:

  1. Cardiovascular system: Stress can cause the heart to beat faster and blood vessels to narrow, which can increase blood pressure and increase the risk of heart attack and stroke.

  2. Digestive system: Stress can cause digestive problems such as stomach aches, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation. It can also exacerbate conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

  3. Immune system: Chronic stress can weaken the immune system and make you more susceptible to infections and diseases.

  4. Musculoskeletal system: Stress can cause muscle tension and pain, especially in the neck, shoulders, and back. It can also exacerbate conditions such as arthritis.

  5. Respiratory system: Stress can cause rapid breathing, shortness of breath, and exacerbate conditions such as asthma.

  6. Mental health: Stress can also have a significant impact on mental health, leading to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

  7. Additionally stress increases cortisol levels in the blood which means that a higher percentage on the foods you eat are stored up as fat.

Managing stress can help improve your overall health and help you remain healthy longer.
